A Bird’s Eye View of the Fjords

Preikestolen — or the Pulpit Rock — is a 1,982-foot cliff in the south of Norway that towers over the Lysefjorden fjords. It’s a popular tourist attraction, and its stunning view makes it the ultimate destination for a daring new hotel project. As CNN reports, Hayri Atak has designed the hotel to look like a part of the cliff, with on the top deck a large viewing platform that sits above three floors of guest rooms. The bottom floor features a pool deck with a cantilevered glass-bottom pool that provides a bird’s eye view of the fjords below.

Interestingly, the concept for the hotel was solely based on a photo one of Atak’s friends sent to him while on holiday, according to My Modern Met. The image inspired Atak to want to carry the adrenaline rush of being on the edge to a place beyond it. Yet no matter how many ripples the design is making in the world of hospitality, there’s no word yet as to when — or even if — the new hotel project will truly become a reality.
